Is It Spring Yet?!

I really need it to be spring already so I can get out in my garden.  As I’ve written at the end of each of my previous gardening posts ~ “Gardening is my therapy.” And it really is…

A friend posted this picture on Facebook earlier today and I was like “Oh man, I hear ya.”  I totally relate.  For me, gardening is truly one of the most therapeutic and rewarding activities that I know of.

It used to be that by this time of year I would be well underway with whatever gardening plans/projects I had in mind for the upcoming growing season, but in not having a place to garden in recent years, I got out of the habit.

Well, with having put in my raised vegetable garden bed at my mom’s place last summer, and now with my also living here, I’m gradually starting to contemplate what I want to do out there this year.

But it’s kinda hard to get motivated with all of the snow that is still out there, and there is a winter weather advisory in the forecast for overnight tonight and tomorrow.  Ugh.  As much as I enjoy the beauty of the snow, I’ve definitely had my fill of it.  This winter has seemed so long and it really needs to be done now.  Just look at the contrast from what the weather was like at this same time last year… “Lets Talk About The Weather”

Earlier this winter I took a sort of “green and growing things mental health day” and went to The Conservatory at Como Zoo.  It’s so very lovely there and it felt so good to be amidst all of the life and living things during the dead of winter.  Another visit to The Conservatory may be in order just to get me through the rest of winter.

I was mostly there to just enjoy the atmosphere, but here are a few photos I happened to snap while I was there…

Omygosh can you say “Pretty in pink?”   Ah, the beauty, my eyes, what a delight.

The scent of lilies can be very strong, but it was so refreshing to me.

More pink-ness…

And here’s a white that is prettier than the snow…

The Como Zoo Conservatory has different themes and gardening exhibits/attractions going on throughout the year, I think I definitely will go and pay them another visit to see the latest.  Maybe I’ll even head over there during the winter storm tomorrow, just out of spite.  😉

Do you have any gardening plans underway?  I would love to hear about them.  That way I can live vicariously through yours until I start my own when this snow finally clears out…

  1. I am so with you on this. I can hardly sleep with anticipation of getting out and working in the garden! I have a few things going in the Potting Shed but nothing is like REAL GARDENING. It IS THERAPY for sure.

    Hold on, it’s coming!!!

    • With your lovely garden I would be losing sleep in anticipation of getting out there as well, it’s so very beautiful, I’m sincerely envious. I can’t wait to see how your garden grows this year, Teresa. Until then, enjoy playing in your potting shed. I’m envious of that too. 😉 Hope everything else is going well in your world, wonderful to hear from you!

  2. Well my Soul Sister, not to make you too jealous, but I have the Lil Helpers with me all week long and we will be building the gardens this week. The perfect weather we are having here will be our reason to get out there and get it done. We are planing on a few raised beds for our veggies and then we are doing at least two for our flowers, unless of course my lil’ flower fairy wants to have one more. 😉 Five beds will be done by Friday when they go home and by the first of April we will be planting seeds. Yay. I will gladly send ya all the pictures you need to get you through. Miss ya lots in a very spring time kinda way. Hugs.

    • I am jealous of the perfect weather you’re having, but what wonderful fun! Bless those Lil Helpers of yours, they’re so precious. ♥ I’m excited to see what you and your mini gardeners come up with. Yes… pictures please! {{{Hugs}}}

  3. Julie, Spring really is just around the corner. Think of our last snowfall as the last hurrah of winter. We need to moisture to fill our lakes and would love more to soak in and help ease our drought. Your pictures are beautiful! The conservatory is always a great place to see and smell green.
In regards to gardening…I have already pre-ordered additional fruits to expand my home orchard and have been busy planning this years veggies. Have a fabulous day!!!!!

    • Hi Michelle, you’re right the snow is good for our lakes and will help ease our drought. I hope this really is the last hurrah of snow though because I am feeling in desperate need of spring. I didn’t realize/remember that you had a home orchard, do you have any Honeycrisps planted? Those are my most favorite apple! I never had much luck with fruit trees, and of course I no longer have the land for them now. But I’m thankful to have my little spot for planting. Good luck with all of your gardening plans this year, and thanks so much for stopping by!

  4. Grinning, I have a lot more plans than I have time, money or energy to finish before fall’s first frost.
    Happy spring gardening

  5. Such beautiful pictures Julie! Hope that you can get out there in the dirt ASAP! xx 🙂

    • Thanks Ruth! The dirt is buried under several more inches of fresh snow here this morning, but I’m planning to venture out into the snowy tundra and make my way to The Conservatory to try and get my “spring fix.” Hopefully it’s not too much longer before the snow melts and I can get out there and dig in the dirt again. Sending warm and well wishes your way today, Ruth.x

  6. Lovely pics again, Julie. I don’t like cold winters or gardening, as it happens! I like ready-made beautiful gardens though, and I wish it was spring all year round, so I feel for you.

    • Thanks so much, Yaz. I don’t like cold winters either, but I do love snow during the holidays. After that it just gets old, especially come March. I enjoy things about each of the four seasons, but winter can be sooo long here. Incidentally, it was a bright sunny day today, which helps a ton to lift the winter blahs. Hope it’s sunny and warm wherever you are, Yaz! 🙂

I'd love to hear from you!
