The Babies Are Back

The baby squirrels that I shared about this past June in “Amidst My Branches” have come home for the winter!  ♥  Of course, I’m not absolutely certain they’re the same exact squirrels I watched grow up in my tree this past spring, but I’d like to think that they are.

I’ve been having so much fun watching them scamper around on the branches of my tree over the past couple of weeks.  They’re so darn cute gathering up leaves in their tiny little paws, stuffing them into their mouths, and then carrying them off to their hole.  In addition to the hole, they have also fashioned two other nests amidst my tree’s highest branches, it’s a regular treetop apartment complex going on out there.   😉

They’ve been pretty hard to catch though as far as taking any photos of them goes, squirrels preparing for winter is a hasty business, but I have managed to capture a few…

This one is my favorite!

I took the screen off and hung out of my window to get this one.  Hence the somewhat odd angle…

This was so cute to watch ~ he would go inside through the front that was carved out and grab a pawful of pumpkin, and then hop up on top and quickly nibble away at it.  Freaking adorable!  ♥

But seriously, they’re barely sitting still long enough for me to catch a picture.  I can’t even tell you how many shots I took that look like this one…

There really was a squirrel paused here on this branch just moments before, I swear.  I guess you’ll just have to take my word for it.   😉

Peace & love…

Oh wow fabulous pics and how marvellous to have squirrel neighbours, I miss the squirrels from this area they used to be pretty common but you rarely see them now, the price of urbanisation I guess.

  4. Brilliant Julie – well captured! They are captivating, but be careful hanging out of windows LOL. 🙂 🙂

  5. Glad to know there are other squirrel lovers out there. I’ve loved them since I was a toddler. When I was a kid, one jumped on my pants leg while riding my bicycle, rode along for 50 feet, looking at me, then jumped off. Strangely, I didn’t even flinch or swerve.

    • They’re such adorable little things, although I can get quite annoyed with them too when it comes to them raiding my vegetable garden. Thankfully they gave me no problems this year. Oh my, it jumped up on your pant leg as you were riding your bike?! I wonder whatever possessed it to do that, silly little squirrel! I gotta hand it to you for not flinching. 🙂

    • Thanks Cher, he was really cute and it was so fun watching him! 🙂 My mom wants to toss out those pumpkins on the front step now that Halloween is over, but I want to leave them out for my little squirrels. At least for a little while longer…

  8. I love the pumpkin, too. But I really like the one where there WAS a squirrel, but now it’s just a branch! LOL! I take a lot of pictures like that, especially at the dog park. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, I’ll get a blurred picture of a tail.

    • Thanks Jean, it’s so nice to have my bare branch shot fully appreciated and understood. 😉 Hahaha that’s hilarious you saying that if you’re lucky at the dog park you might get a picture of a blurred tail! I have a few blurry squirrel tail pictures too. 😀

  9. Julie– are they still smaller than the grown-up squirrels? Or do you just know your “babies”? I’ve never seen little ones–they must have been so cute!!!

    • These do appear to be a bit smaller than full adult squirrels, but the reason I think they could be my same babies is because there are four of them frolicking around out there, and there were four babies nesting in my hollow tree last spring. Oh gosh yes they were especially cute as tiny little ones, and a true delight to watch! ♥ It’s hard to tell just how little and precious they were just from looking at pictures, but I have quite a few in my post “Amidst My Branches” if you want to see just how cute they were. 🙂

  10. Beautiful squirrel pics! I just love those little guys. They are plentiful in my backyard this year and this year’s batch is quite friendly. I’ve noticed that, like yours, they’ve been busy nest building the past few days.
