Goodbye Winter, it’s Been Lovely…

It may seem a bit odd to do this on the first day of spring, but I thought I’d share the last of the frost photos that I’ve taken over the winter.  I guess this is just my backwards way of observing the changing of the seasons.  😉

We’re always so quick to welcome in the new season, because heck, spring is way better than winter after all, isn’t it?  But I believe each season holds a unique beauty all its own, and winter is no exception.  I know winter is long, and cold, and long, and I for one, am so ready for springtime, but even in the harshest of cold and in the seemingly eternal length of winter, there truly is still so much beauty that can be found.

So as I say goodbye to winter, I want to say again how lovely it has been and how much I have enjoyed seeing these beautiful formations on my windows all winter, it was an absolute delight.  I’m so thankful for eyes that see!  ♥

These aren’t the finest captures of the season, my favorites are probably the ones I shared in my Frosty Winter Sunrise post, but they’re still lovely just the same…

The frost design on this next one isn’t really anything special, but I so adore the soft, pastel colors of the early morning light in the background…

This last one was taken on the last day that I saw any frost on my windows this winter, and it seems especially fitting for sharing today on the first day of spring…

I think it kinda looks like the side profile of a bunny.

Bunnies and springtime just seem to go hand in hand, and it’s so fun that the very last time I had frost on my windows this winter it was shaped liked a bunny.  A cue from nature that winter was really over perhaps?  Or maybe it’s just the weird way I see things.  😉

Well, goodbye winter, it’s been lovely…

Happy first day of Spring everyone!

  2. Those ice formations are incredible, so organic looking in comparison to the ones I’ve had, which have all been very geometric. Happy spring!

    • Thanks so much, I really have had such a wonderful variety of frost patterns on my windows this winter, and they’ve been especially interesting and lovely on the extremely cold days ~ we saw wind chills as low as – 50’s here this winter! But even as lovely as they were, I’m not one bit sad to see that cold weather move on. 😉 Happy spring to you too Ben, thanks for stopping by! 😀

  4. Looking at these beautiful frost photos makes me a little sad that winter has passed. It really does have its own unique beauty. Of course, it’s easy for me to regret the passing of winter because we didn’t really have much winter here! Great post, Jewels. Reading it really helped me feel gratitude, both for winter that has passed and spring that has arrived. Enjoy your first day of spring!

    • I enjoyed the beauty, but I can’t say I’m too sad to see the winter end. 😉 Thanks so much Trisha, I’m feeling that gratitude as well! We had beautiful spring-like temps here today and I was happy to spend some time being outside. There’s still quite a bit of snow out there in some areas (another 4 inches of fresh snow fell just the other day), but with these warmer temps it won’t be around for much longer…

  5. The pictures you have shown over winter have fascinated me, we dont get things like that in NZ! You are so clever with your words too. I cant wait to travel to the US again and visit places that have a proper winter, my partners uncle lives in Maine and the stories they tell about having to prepare in advance if they wish to travel are amazing!! I’ll swap you your winter for spring and get my umbrella ready as Sydney is in thunder storm mode. Look forward to seeing your lovely flowers bloom 🙂

  9. Ah, it’s been wonderful watching your frosted windows all winter long. Long winter was so long, Jewels! I cannot believe how crazy cold it got. I did not like five days of the winter. They were not my favorite. But overall, yes, it was lovely! Bring on THE SPRING!

  10. I will miss your photos of the frost but I will not miss the winter. Even in Texas our winter was long and cold and not all what we are use to. I am so ready to be able to go outdoors and enjoy it sit in the sun and feel it and just relax because it is springtime. I want to see the flowers, bushes and plants blooming. I want to smell the it in the fresh air of spring.

    • I will not miss winter either, I’m so ready for spring and for the return of all the green and growing things, but I did enjoy its beauty while winter was here. It’s always been important to me that I find and appreciate the beauty in and of each day, no matter the weather or circumstance. Otherwise it’s just too easy to get down and depressed, especially since the winters here are sooo long, one could go completely mad. 😉
But ah yes, I’m with you on that… it will be so wonderful to be outdoors soaking up all the scents and sights of spring… sigh.
