They scent the air with their luscious perfume,
a sublime aroma my senses consume.
Too brief are their blossoms of beauty and grace,
captivated I linger in this lilac embrace.

The lilacs here are finally blooming and all I want to do is be outside and revel in their gorgeousness. Their scent is so potent, it’s thoroughly intoxicating! Between the lilacs, the lily of the valley, and all of the various flowering trees that are blooming, it’s like a festival of fragrances going on outside right now! Even amidst life’s’ other trials, I’ve been in absolute bliss smelling them as I’ve been putzing around in my garden or sitting out on the patio. ❤
And feeling very grateful for my sense of smell…

Lilacs are so amazing! The bush where I usually get my sniffing in got cut way back but, luckily, a few others in the neighborhood have grown enough for me to sniff from the sidewalk so I don’t get busted for trespassing. 🙂 Your picture of the lilacs is gorgeous! Gosh, aren’t they though?! I’m glad there are some in your neighborhood to get your “sniffing in” 🙂 There are so many lilacs in and around the area where I live that you can smell them while driving down pretty much any road if you have your windows down, it’s such a delight!

Thanks Ruth, I’m so glad you liked it! I have tons more that I snapped, but this one was my favorite. We are expecting some really warm temps here all week ~ mid 80’s which is warmer than usual for this early, and not the best for planting. Good thing I got most of my planting done already. Silly weather goes directly from winter to summer. All the more reason to relish the springtime while it lasts!
Hope those Hellebores you put in are doing well. I did go online to see what they were and they’re very lovely! 🙂

Your poetry is quite amazing! I was wondering…do you see something, like a flower for instance and does a poem just appear, or do you study it for a while and figure it out? I hope that makes sense, I just think its fascinating, you make me feel like the flower has a personality or story if you like..I dont write poetry often, and when I do its when Ive been in prayer/meditation..

It’s different every time, sometimes certain words will come to mind and I’ll expand on them as I reflect on how I’m feeling about something. With anything nature related it usually comes easily to me because nature inspires me so much. I do a little bit of study, in the way of using different words to express more deeply what I’m feeling, but if it doesn’t flow naturally, I don’t do it because then it feels forced and inauthentic. I really try to infuse a small portion of my spirit into everything I write, so it has to be real. Ya know? I also try to keep it simple ~ if the reader has to think too hard about the meaning vs just feeling the words, then what’s the point? I love different styles of poetry, but if it hurts my brain trying to figure it out, I don’t have time for that. 😉
I get self conscious about my poetry sometimes because I feel like I get a bit overly dramatic about something as simple as a flower etc, like I’m weird or something, but then I think ‘oh well, this is how I feel, so if it’s weird, then so be it.’
I usually write in the mornings after I’ve had my time of prayer and meditation, so all my writing, not just my poetry, is usually an out flowing from that. Sometimes I write at night too after reflecting on the day or if something inspires me, but usually I’m trying to shut down my mind at night, so I try not to think too much about anything. 😉
