The other night when I went to let the dog out, I noticed some wonderful storm clouds rolling across the sky off to the west. It was just before sunset making the stark contrast of the light and the dark clouds even more prominent, not to mention, vibrant and colorful! Even in knowing that my camera probably wouldn’t do them justice if I tried to take pictures, I went and grabbed it anyway and snapped a few photos…

I do love me a good thunderstorm, and unfortunately this one just passed on by, but not without a crackle or two of lightening. When I uploaded these onto my computer, I was a bit disappointed that I wasn’t able to catch how cool this next cloud formation looked with the way dark and the light clouds swirled around and into each other (it was a sort of interesting yin and yang look ☯), but I was absolutely tickled that I happened to catch a little spark of pink lightening in it…

Whether day or night, cloudy or clear, I love gazing up at the sky. There’s just something about looking out into infinity that is deeply moving to me. Having that sense of being so small in comparison to the vastness of the universe, but of also feeling intimately connected to it all at the same time simply astounds me and fills me with awe and wonder.
Hope you experience little moments of wonder today.
And joy! ❤

Fabulous photography Julie!
And I do so agree with your closing statement:
‘Having that sense of being so small in comparison to the vastness of the universe, but of also feeling intimately connected to it all. . .’
I recall having a profound sense of this when witnessing a full solar eclipse here in England a few years ago. It was really very emotional for me. 😥
Many thanks.

Thanks so much, Hariod! ❤
I love experiencing those meaningful moments like you mention you had when witnessing that full solar eclipse. I had a similar experience the first time I ever saw the ocean, I completely broke down, it was a very awe inspiring and spiritual experience for me, I'll never forget it!
I've never watched a solar eclipse, but I've seen several lunar ones, it's always a moving and mysterious experience. 🙂

Thanks Tom! I haven’t seen many like these this year, and it was such a delight! That’s probably why I wanted to be sure to try and take some pictures of them. 🙂

Great photos and reminders to enjoy the simple pleasures. I used to sky gaze more and had very similar feelings that you describe so well; the vastness and connection. Watching sunsets brought me the same feelings.
Thanks Julie! 🙂

Thanks Brad. Since moving back to the city, I don’t feel like I get to see the sky as much (especially sunsets) with all the tall buildings everywhere, unless I specifically go to a higher vantage point in order to see it. So it’s always an extra treat when I’m just doing an everyday thing (like letting the dog out) and happen to catch the sky looking amazing. 🙂

Similar reasons for me. My current home doesn’t offer sunset views. I do occasionally happen upon a beautiful one! 🙂

I absolutely LOVE a good thunderstorm! We had a good one 2 days ago pass through Chicago. I’m like a little kid in a candy store when it comes to thunderstorms. Those photos are stunning! And nothing beats a surprise of getting a strike of lightning in a photo! 🙂

Me too! So funny, both my daughter and I are the same way, the tornado sirens could be going off and we’re outside excitedly looking up at the sky. Silly fools! 😉
Thanks so much, Gabby! I know, I was so delighted to catch that lightening! Too bad it wasn’t a better quality photo though…

Thanks so much, Joey! Haha yeah, it sort of is! I wish I could have zoomed out a bit more on it, but then there would have been housetops and power lines in the shot. No matter… I’m just happy to have seen those lovely clouds and been able to photograph them at all. 🙂

Thanks Trisha! Yeah, not many thunderstorms over there. It’s so interesting how the weather patterns fluctuate throughout the various parts of the country, isn’t it? Yes, oh gosh it was so exciting to catch that little lightening bolt! 😀
Hope you’re doing alright over there Trisha, I’ve been thinking about you, haven’t seen many posts from you lately. Sending sunny thoughts your way. Or thundery ones, depending on what you may be wishing for. 😉

Me too, Julie. We’ve had some rather impressive clouds too this year and yes, I caught some. Then I get more and more photos, forgetting about those clouds …. until a post like yours reminds me. *sigh* If you KNEW how many photos I now have ….. LOL …. I was like a madwoman this year behind the camera! Perhaps I am stocking my shelves for winter? I dunno. LOL (((HUGS))) Amy
