25 Random Things To Do During a Winter Storm…

The recent winter storm has now passed and the lovely blue skies have returned.  But with the winter season now clearly upon us, I thought I would share a list of 25 random things one can do during a winter storm.  You know… just to be ready for when the next one hits.  If you’re in Minnesota, it will probably be one day very soon.   😉

Some of these are taken from or related to previous posts of mine, so if you click on the photos or the links, they’ll bring you directly to those, but most of them are just random things that popped into my head as I was making this list.  Well, without further ado, here they are, in no particular order…

1.  Bake

DSCF1118a

One of my favorite things to do on a snowy day!  We made these chocolate chip cookies yesterday and they were so delicious!

2.  Read.  Here’s what I’m reading at the moment…

!cid_Image090820141237431

Well… not at this exact moment.

3.  Read with your pets

Or should I say try to read with your pets while they make themselves comfortable on top of your reading materials. 😉

4. Watch TV with your pets

5.  Take a nap with your pets

While your daughter creeps on you and snaps a picture of it.

6.  Creep on the squirrels outside your bedroom window

While they’re creeping on you.

7.  Listen to music

8.  Or make some music of your own

9. Light some candles

“Come on baby light my fire.” Oops sorry, I’m still on the music thing. 😀

10.  Knit a scarf

Even if you have no idea how, and it ends up turning out a bit deformed.

11.  Paint your toes

12.  Paint your leg

13.  Paint the walls

14.  Talk on the phone

An oldie of me and my sister. She’s the one on the phone and I’m the little mischievous looking one. These days it’s with each other that we’re talking on the phone, rather than me creeping on her.

15.  Write about your dreams

16.  Or write about 25 things you can do during a winter storm  😉

17.  Work on home improvement projects

18.  Contemplate all the mysteries of the universe

19.  Or just contemplate the reason why someone would invent a gumball container shaped like a pink brain.

20.  Stare at your lava lamp

21.  Stare at shadows flickering on the wall

22.  Color in a coloring book.   I just bought this one the other day…

!cid_downsized_Image111220141057491

And I can’t wait to color in it!  Because yes… I am an overgrown child.

23.  Shop online.  Here’s the last thing I bought online…

This stuff smells freaking amazing!

24.  Play World of Warcraft

Oondasta 1

And die a painful. miserable, virtual death over and over and over again.  But really… it’s fun!  😉

And last, but not least…

If you can’t beat em, join em…

25.  Go out and play in the snow!

And I’m about to go out and do just that.  Well technically, I’m going out to run errands and will be driving in it, but I still plan to try and have fun while I’m at it!  😀

Hope your day is filled with fun, and with…

  2. Such a great post with terrific ideas, Jewels! So creative of you to think of this!! My husband is on business in Minnesota and says it’s dreadful there (cold & snow). I ‘vote’ for number 1, the chocolate-chip cookies, as my mouth is watering and I’m ready to skip over to the kitchen any second to whip up a batch. Love them! Thank you, Jewels.

    • Thanks Kim! 🙂 He says it’s dreadful here?! He must not be a fan of winter. 😉 I’m not crazy about the cold, but I think the snow is lovely! ❤ Yes, baking is so wonderful to do on a wintry day, and those chocolate chip cookies we made are really yummy! 😀

  3. I’m still not ready for winter, but I’m liking your playful spirit! Thanks for reminding me to have fun and play. FYI, I would have picked going out and playing in the snow as #1! 😄

    • I don’t know that I’m ready for it either, but since it has now definitely arrived here, I want to try and make the best of it! 🙂 Playing out in the snow is so fun, I don’t do it nearly as often as I’d like to. Do you get much snow there Brad?

      • No Julie, not much snow, but crazy cold last year and already colder temps in November than I ever remember. Working on acceptance! 😄

      • Gosh, it was “crazy cold” everywhere last winter wasn’t it! Hey, this list comes in handy for a polar vortex too! 😉 Yeah, we’re colder here this November too so far, I chose to think it means we will have an earlier spring! 😀

  4. Hey Julie, can you lend me that pink brain so I can contemplate the mysteries of the universe?

  7. Fun post to read. Ha! That coloring book looks great! Baking is probably #1 on my list because it makes the house smell good and when the weather gets better, I can share some baked goodies with my friends.

    • I’m so glad you liked it, Daisy! I know, there’s nothing quite like baking on a cold, wintry day, it makes the house feel so cozy. Or maybe it’s from having the oven on… 😉

  8. Let’s get practical. How many rooms do you have. When can I come? I can’t promise to do much snow shoveling, but I can be somewhat entertaining. ( You have wine don’t you?)
I really want to be with you when winter hits!!
    Love this post Julie 🙂

    • Hahaha! Come on over, we’ve got plenty of room! No help shoveling? No worries, we hire someone else to do that! Gosh, it would be so fun to have you, Val! x
      And yes… I do have wine! 😀

  11. So many ideas and such a fun list to read. Makes me wish we’d get snowed in here for a few days! I love your mischievous look in that picture of you and your sister. You were a cutie pie!

    • Yeah, it’s not all bad being snowed in, I actually wish we’d get some more snow. 😀 I like that picture of me and my sister, I wish I could remember what was going on in it, like why I had that silly face expression, what a goofy little kid.
By the way, I thought of you and that pretty sunflower you drew when I bought my Nature Mandala coloring book. 🙂 Now I just need some markers…
