Weekly Photo Challenge: Reward

Growing my own food is truly one of the most rewarding things to me, so when I saw that the subject for this week’s photo challenge was reward, I immediately thought of my vegetable garden.  Of course, it’s the dead of winter here at the moment, so I had to pull a photo from my archives, hope that isn’t cheating.  😉

A few rewards from my garden this past summer…

Such a refreshing treat on a hot summer day!  Yes quite rewarding!  😀

Of course, in the winter, the prices for ‘fresh’ veggies at the store are anything but rewarding, it’s absolutely ridiculous how expensive just one organic cucumber is!  I can’t wait until I can get back out in my garden and grow my own.

Alas, it will be a long while before it’s warm enough here to grow cucumbers or anything else.  And… growing them is one thing, harvesting them is another, so it will be an even longer while before I’ll be able to enjoy any of my own homegrown veggies.  Sigh…  But hey, that makes it all the more rewarding, right?

One thing that is starting to grow here right now is my spring fever.  Yep, that is definitely growing.  😉

I am striving for contentment though.  If those two words together don’t completely contradict each other haha!

Happy Monday, may your week be filled with much reward, with contentment, and with…

I totally agree with you that it’s one of the most rewarding thing in life, ‘growing our own food’.

After years of dreaming, we managed to grow some vegetables now and feels really excited 🙂

    • Thanks so much Sreejith! 🙂
How wonderful you’ve been able to grow some of your own veggies now, it really is so rewarding, best of luck to you with your garden! Mine is quite small, so the yields aren’t very large, but I’m grateful for every inch of it!
Wishing you a beautiful day too!

    • Haha okay thanks Derrick! I’m just not always sure if the ‘challenge’ is to go out during the week and newly photograph something on the topic, or if the main point is just to share. 🙂

      • That’s why I don’t usually do the challenges. In my Ramblings I like to use sometimes very old photographs.

      • I just do the challenges, but then do them in my own way, even if I do cheat sometimes. I’ve never really been one to follow the rules. 😉
That reminds me, I really should go and pay a visit to your blog…

  7. I’ve begun the seed selection process — more garden this year! More garden! 🙂

    • I’ve been trying not to go there just yet, because once my spring fever sets in it gets really hard waiting so long for planting season. Plus, I still have indoor projects to complete and don’t want to lose my focus by wishing the time away until I can get outside. Do you start any of your seeds indoors? I have done that in the past, but I don’t really have anywhere here to set up an area for starting them indoors Not yet, anyway. 😉

      • I do start the tomatoes indoors, in a few weeks. Then I set them outside to hardy them, and then I plant them. I save cans to put seeds in, and put them in rows in front of the kitchen window. This year, tho, I’ve decided to grow my own marigolds (garden border) and I saved plastic egg cartons for that. I’ll only plant half as many tomatoes this year, as they were crazy productive, and toward October, I began to feel they were wasted, even with making sauce and giving them away.
Most everything else I start outdoors.

    • Spring is not in the air here just yet, Robbie. In fact, it’s snowing this morning, and it’s very quiet, not a chirp to be heard…

  10. It must be satisfying to grow your own veggies. I tried yo grow some beets and carrots a couple years back but my backyard just doesn’t get enough sun. I was hoping the neighbor’s tree would fall down but our mild winter didn’t get the job done. 😦 I wish you an early spring so you can get a head start on those veggies!

    • I’m lucky to have a very small spot of sunshine on the side of the house for growing just a few veggies, otherwise it’s only partial sun or shade in the rest of the yard. Thanks for the early spring wishes – we’re supposed to hit 50 after the weekend! But that’s a long way off yet and one never knows what will happen with the silly weather. 😉

  11. We had like minds over this one. My reward was my allotment produce. Those cucumbers look terrific though. Must go and see if I’ve still got some seed from last year. It’s time to get sowing here in the UK.
