A Little Bit

It takes a bit of sunshine

and a little bit of rain

It takes a bit of joy

and a little bit of pain

It takes a bit of rest

and a little bit of strain

For the garden of the heart to grow

I really don’t enjoy the rain, pain, and strain parts, but they truly are a necessary part of any garden’s good growth.

I hope the garden of your heart is growing in good health today, and is filled with…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Motion

Pedaling over pavement

my shadow and me

in motion

I know this is a bit of an odd/awkward shot, but I’m often aware of my shadow while I’m out riding my bike, and I always think to myself that I should really try and snap a photo of it sometime.  With this week’s photo challenge being motion, I thought now would be a good time to give it a try.  Maybe I’m just uncoordinated, but I found it really tricky trying to snap a photo while riding a bike.  Especially since I couldn’t see very well through the viewfinder with the sun behind me.  So this truly was a challenge for me.  I’m also lucky I didn’t crash into anything.  😉

Ah, but today was such a lovely day for a bike ride…

Hope your week is off to a lovely start!

Get Fresh With Me

New spring green

you’re a pleasure to see

come on sweet darlin’

get a little fresh with me.

Is there any color more refreshing and revitalizing than the new green of springtime?  All the trees here are exploding with fresh new green right now, it’s absolutely exhilarating, and it makes me feel a little frisky!

May you find freshness and a little friskiness today too!

As Evening Sets In

 With the horizon all aglow

as the last golden rays of the sun paint the sky

I breathe

saying a silent farewell to this day

All the joys and sorrows melding into one

a calm awareness fills me with peace

as evening sets in

Forget Not

“Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet

and the winds long to play with your hair.”

~ Kahlil Gibran

And while you’re letting the earth delight in feeling your bare feet and letting the winds play with your hair, perhaps the trees could do with getting a hug too…

Yep, just doing my part to embrace Earth Day yesterday.  Literally.   😉

As nice as it looks like it was outside in the above photo, it was actually freezing out yesterday!  But I didn’t let that stop me from getting out there and celebrating our beautiful earth, hugging trees n stuff.

Hope you got a chance to get out there and show the earth some love too.  And going forward, lets “forget not” to do what we can to take care of our amazing planet.  Every day should be Earth Day…

Whatever is Lovely

Note to self:

“…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.”

Such as the lovely Rhododendrons that burst into bloom here this morning.

The above verse is a good reminder for me when my thoughts go wandering off to unpleasant places.  While it’s okay to visit those places sometimes, it’s best not to dwell there.

Hope you and your thoughts are dwelling in/on the lovely today…

Marvelous Magnolias

In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous.

                                                                       ~ Aristotle

I couldn’t agree more!  And right now a bit of that marvelous is showing up in the glorious magnolias that are in bloom here!  Ah… so much absolute loveliness!      I got totally caught up in the splendor of their soft, delicate beauty while I was outside enjoying the perfect spring weather we had here yesterday.

Here are a few photos I snapped while I was at it…

Rejoicing, I’m so thankful for eyes to see such beauty.  And for a heart that feels it too!

Wishing the same for you…

Barnebey and Me

Wind in my hair

feeling wild and free

flying down the road

just Barnebey and me

Not a cloud in the sky

warm sun on my back

to destinations unknown

we may never come back.

I know this is really silly, but I’m feeling rather silly at the moment.  I went for my first bike ride of the season yesterday and it was so wonderful.  It was a gorgeous day and it felt so great to be back on my beautiful, blue bike again, I was smiling the entire time.  The people I rode past probably thought I was high.  And I guess I was – flying high on my blue cloud.  😉

And the high is just beginning… I have lots of things planned with Barnebey this summer, both pleasurable and practical, and I’m really looking forward to it.  It’s supposed to be lovely weather again today, so a little while later we’ll be off to the library together, as my book is overdue, oops!

From there, I have no idea where we’ll end up, but it’s sure to a beautiful journey.  Barnebey and me.

Thanks for letting me share my silly poem and a bit of the joy I find in my riding my bike.  May your journey today be filled with joy and beauty, and with…
