Weekly Photo Challenge: Motion

I know this is a bit of an odd/awkward shot, but I’m often aware of my shadow while I’m out riding my bike, and I always think to myself that I should really try and snap a photo of it sometime.  With this week’s photo challenge being motion, I thought now would be a good time to give it a try.  Maybe I’m just uncoordinated, but I found it really tricky trying to snap a photo while riding a bike.  Especially since I couldn’t see very well through the viewfinder with the sun behind me.  So this truly was a challenge for me.  I’m also lucky I didn’t crash into anything.  😉

Ah, but today was such a lovely day for a bike ride…

Hope your week is off to a lovely start!

  1. Julie–Bravest Biker Chick I know! Yes, you are lucky you didn’t crash. I am quite impressed, though! 😀

  2. Clever and challenge done Julie! 🙂 I often watch my shadow too. Chasing our shadows? I wonder what that says about us? XD

  6. Love this, Julie! It really is perfect for the challenge – I can feel the speed and the wind – I imagine it was tough to execute. Glad you didn’t crash…do you wear a helmet, just in case? 🙂

    • Thank you Eliza! 🙂 It was tough to execute – and I snapped about five of them because as I mentioned, I couldn’t really even see through the viewfinder on my camera. My daughter was with me, so she was helping watch for cars and other moving and non moving objects while I was snapping, but of course she had to pay attention to her own pedaling at the same time. I don’t wear a helmet – I like to live dangerously! Not really though haha, it’s just that I like to feel the wind in my hair. 🙂

      • I know you’ve heard the helmet lecture…;-) but I have to put my two cents in. A good friend of ours was biking around her neighborhood last year and they think a dog caused her to crash with a terrible brain injury, long coma and significant cognitive difficulties, to this day she lives in rehab, unsure whether she will ever leave. So horror story of the day… sorry, but I would never wish that on anyone. For the people who love you, you might want to reconsider… 🙂 big hugs!

      • So sorry to hear about your friend, Eliza. I totally get where you’re coming from – my dad rode his bicycle into his 80’s and I often worried about him out there riding amidst all the city traffic without a helmet. Perhaps one day I will reconsider. 🙂

      • I hope you do. Until then, a blessing will have to suffice! 🙂

  8. Careful not to fall off that bike, Julie! Of course, you could always learn to ride the unicycle and then you wouldn’t need to use your hands at all 🙂

  10. I’m glad you’ve been able to go out bike riding. My bike is buried in our garage, something I ‘m going to have a word with my husband about tonight. I am impressed you were able to snap a shot while pedaling along! I surely would have crashed!
