Whether in my garden or in my hand
on my skin or on the land
Whether growing wildly or in places planned
where flowers bloom, life feels grand

I had a sad thing happen in my veggie garden recently – I lost my beloved zucchini plant to a storm that came through the area during the night. When I awoke the next morning I found my lovely zucchini plant all sprawled out and smashed down from the strong winds and heavy rain. As I was clearing some of it away, I picked up one of the little zucchinis that had broken off that still had its bloom attached to the end, and my first thought was ‘poor thing will never have a chance to become what it was meant to be.’ But as I turned it around in my hand, I thought ‘how beautiful it still is, even after all the trauma it had endured during the storm,’ and I went and grabbed my camera to take a picture of it. As I was snapping, I thought ‘there’s got to be a metaphor hiding here somewhere for me in this… there always is.’ 😉
Maybe it’s to realize how brief and fragile life can be, and what a gift it is regardless of the circumstances, and to keep on blooming even through life’s storms. Or maybe it’s to see and appreciate the beauty that is always all around us, even in devastation, if we make the effort or pause long enough to notice it. It’s all about perspective, isn’t it?
I choose to perceive that life is beautiful. Even if I don’t get to eat my own zucchini. 😉
I’m still trying to salvage part of the plant, but I don’t know if it will produce anything. I did get a few zucchinis before the storm came, and for that I am grateful.
I hope you find things to be grateful for today too. Keep blooming, my friends!

You’re the second person this week who’s reported lost zucchini to a storm 😦 I think the other was flooding.
Sorry.

Thanks Joey. I think it’s because they get so massive in size that makes them more prone to damage, especially from wind.

Poor zucchini plant. It’s good to look for the silver lining. Hugs to you and your plant Julie! 🙂

I know, poor thing, and it’s such a disappointment. I’m thankful that I got a few zucchinis out of it though – I love finding the silver lining. Thanks Brad 🙂

Thanks Trisha, it’s a bummer that the storm had to hit right as my plant was getting ready to really rock out some zucchinis, I love them so much. I know, and what a gorgeous bloom it was too.

That must have been some storm. Sorry about your plant, but I like the musings it prompted you to 🙂

It was a wild one, it kept me up half the night listening to it, and although I love storms, I was worried about how my garden would fair. I’m glad it was only my zucchini that was damaged in it.
Thanks! 🙂

Sadly, Mother Nature often rages against her children. I’m so sorry your zucchini was one of her victims. Blessings, N 🙂 ❤

Thanks Natalie, I’m just glad that it was only my zucchini that was damaged, and that I still have lots of other yummy produce to look forward to. 🙂

Thankfully Zucchini is a fast growing plant and will produce for a long period, but yes I know what you mean when a storm wrecks your hard work. Our farmers loose several years income when this happens to their crops and fruit trees.

Zucchini is easy (and fun) to grow. I only have space for one plant in my tiny garden, so if that goes that’s all there is. I’m still trying to salvage the undamaged part of the plant, keeping my fingers crossed…
I can’t even imagine how devastating that would be for those farmers to lose several years of income. Nature is beautiful, but is also sometimes destructive…

I love all the metaphors Julie. Life is all about perspective and going with what shows up 🌼
Thank you for the lovely piano music and video of nature’s beauty. It certainly lifted my heart once more 💛

Thanks Val, I’m forever swimming in a metaphorical sea, as I always seem to find hidden messages and multiple meanings in everything. Only time will tell if that’s a good thing or not. 😉
So glad you also enjoyed the music and the video, and that it gave your heart a little lift today. x ❤

I have learned not to put too much weight on the stories I have about situations and feelings. This is when I remind myself that Spirit and the good things in life are simple. ❤️

How wonderful that you can find a positive 🙂 in the sad demise of your zucchini. 😦 I agree that beauty can be found everywhere and all it takes is being attuned to its presence. “Blossom where you’re planted!” ❤

Sometimes finding the positive is a bit more difficult than other times, but the beauty of that zucchini blossom really caught my attention even while in the midst of my sadness over losing my beloved plant, it was so bright and bold and looked so pretty in my hand.
“Blossom where you’re planted!” I love gardening analogies. 🙂
Blessings to you Eliza ❤
