On a Rainy Autumn Morning

I awake to a melody of raindrops playing a sweet refrain on my rooftop

Relishing the warmth and comfort lying beneath my cozy covers

lingering a bit longer in bed is going to be a must today

But hearing me stir, a hungry kitty tickles my cheek with her whiskers, mew

Not yet Baby, lets snuggle a while

Her cold nose touches mine, mew

So much for lingering in bed, a hungry cat must be appeased

And as I force myself to crawl out of my cozy little world, I am appeased with a hot steaming cup of coffee

Rich aroma and flavor even more enhanced by the mood of the weather

Looking outside, vibrant autumn colors paint a stunning contrast against the dark, gloomy skies

Wet leaves decorate the ground, just as beautiful fallen as they are adorning the branches

The kitty empties her dish, and now beckons me come and snuggle, mew

I’m up now sweetie, sorry

And as the rain continues to fall, I sip, gradually draining my cup

taking in all that this present moment has to offer

on a rainy autumn morning

And wishing I didn’t have errands to run today…

Under the Crescent Moon

Pastel skies glow through barren branches

as a crescent moon dangles amid them like a delicate jewel

My thoughts become wistful, my heart full of love

And as the stars gradually begin to appear in the sky

I wish upon every one of them, whispering a silent prayer

that one day

we will look up at this same sky together

no longer separated by distance or circumstance

and lay together in each other’s arms dreaming

under the crescent moon

The Sunshine Tree

Come my love, play with me

lets frolic in the autumn leaves

and let our hearts run wild and free

underneath the sunshine tree

I’m telling you… I have never wanted to try and capture a scene more than this one.  This was one of the most beautiful, magical autumn settings I’ve ever seen (with my own eyes, I mean).  The golden sunlight shining on this golden tree took my breath away.   ❤

Most of the photos I snapped were over on the other side of the tree – that’s where the real magic was, but my lens kept picking up the glare of the sun, and I don’t know enough about photography nor have a camera that can do much more than just point and shoot, so I couldn’t quite capture the scene.  But that’s okay… I captured it in my mind and have it filed in my memory banks.  🙂

Plus, I also have this picture my sister took of me with her phone while I was in the moment…

Once again, I thought she was beside me snapping her own photos, but she was doing that ‘from my perspective’ thing again like in Capturing a Waterfall.

She’s the one who spotted the tree as we were driving down the road and slammed on her brakes.  I almost spilled my pumpkin spice latte.  Then she parked on the sidewalk.  I mean literally on it, as there was no parking on that road, nor any shoulder for us to pull over onto.  We were being totally illegal and totally not caring because it would have been totally worth the parking ticket.  And the spilled latte.  Which tasted all that much better after basking in the golden light of the sunshine tree.

A glassy foreshadowing of the cold to come

when the autumn colors are all done

© Julie Rehnelt 2015

I know, I know, everyone dreads the cold temps of winter, but look at the glass icicle I made!  It didn’t really actually turn out looking the way it was supposed to, but I’m still proud of it –  it was a lot harder to make than one might realize, and it looks pretty dangling there in the midst of the fall foliage.  Autumn makes everything beautiful.  ❤

A dear friend of mine gave me a gift certificate for a glass-making class for my birthday in August, and this past weekend we attended the class together – Basics in Boron at Potekglass.

It was a little scary using a blow torch at first, and there are many hazards to working with glass, but it was a really fun experience, and I’m so thankful to my friend for giving me such a wonderful gift.  I love learning new things… even if I end up not being very good at it.

I also made this…

It’s supposed to be a paperweight, but I think it’s a bit too small to actually weigh down much of anything.  Again, it didn’t really turn out exactly like it was supposed to, but it still looks pretty cool and I’m proud of it.

We also learned glass blowing, and mine literally blew up.  Oops!  Did you know that you actually blow into molten glass to blow glass?  I know, it seems like a no-brainer given the word blow, but I didn’t realize you use your mouth.  It’s a bit unnerving having your mouth on the end of something that is like a thousand degrees only a few inches away.  I don’t think I’ll be trying that again.

But I definitely think I’d like to take another glass-making class again sometime, I’d love to learn how to make stained glass.  I’d also like to try making more of those icicles – they’d be lovely on a Christmas tree or to give as a gift.  And they’re not as cold as real icicle.   😉

Stay warm my friends…

Autumn Winds

The windy weather mirrors my windy emotions

As gale force winds blow outside, a tempest brews within

gusts of sadness sweep through my troubled heart

And like the colorful leaves that cling to tree branches in fall, not yet ready to let go

I can’t let go

no matter how strong the autumn winds may blow

Every Leaf

“Every leaf speaks bliss to me
Fluttering from the autumn tree.”

                      – Emily Brontë

Sigh… I so relate to those words…

I’m heading up to the North Shore today to hopefully experience a bit of that bliss fluttering from the autumn trees as their “Fall Color report” says the area is a peak right now.

Wishing you some bliss too, have a lovely weekend my friends!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Boundaries

Refusing to be confined behind man-made barricades

nature breaches the boundaries

© Julie Rehnelt 2015

While out on a bike ride last night I noticed these trees coming through the fence that was alongside the bike path, and the first thing I thought of was how nature knows no boundaries.  Then I thought of this week’s photo challenge and how perfectly they would fit with its boundaries theme.  I had planned to snap a few photos of them on my way back, but my camera batteries died after taking a couple of pictures a bit further down the path.  Luckily, my friend who was with me had her phone and she was kind enough to let me use it so I could try and capture of few shots of them.  They look a bit sad to me because clearly they ultimately didn’t survive their battle with the fence.  But on the first one you can see little green life sprouting out from the seemingly dead stump.  I love it… life always finds a way!

Here’s some life finding a way too – what I snapped with my camera before my batteries died… Virginia Creeper entwined along that same fence, showing a little preview of its autumn colors…

I saw a quote the other day that said “Radiate good vibes” and I thought of that as I was trying to capture the fading sunlight shining through the leaves, but I couldn’t quite capture it before my batteries died.

Hope you radiate some good vibes today my friends, may life find a way, and may your dreams know no boundaries…

WPC: Boundaries

It’s Tummy Time

On the day we found out that my daughter was having a baby girl, I snapped a photo of her holding the ultrasound photo in front of her bare tummy, but it was with my crappy cell phone so it didn’t turn out very well.  That was fine because it was mostly only for us to see – a way to remember the special moment.  But I got to thinking that I’d really like to try and capture a nicer photo with my regular camera, so I asked my daughter to go out into the garden and pose for me where I snapped the above photo.  My sweet girls  ❤

I hope you’ll indulge me because I plan to take more photos of her tummy as it grows – I’m completely fascinated by it!  Being the month of October, I have an idea floating around in my mind that involves her tummy and pumpkins, but I don’t know if that idea will materialize or not.  Either way, I know I’ll be taking more photos of her tummy and there may be some I’ll want to share, so I hope you don’t mind.  This first-time Grandma is reveling in the awe of it all!

Thanks for joining me for tummy time, hope you have a wonderful day!
