Mandala Monday ~ Hidden Falls

Originally I didn’t have a mandala to share for today’s Mandala Monday, but then I made this yesterday while out on a hike with my sister and thought I’d share…

If it looks crooked, that’s because it is.  🙃  The only reason I made a mandala on this stump was because it had a hole in it and for some reason I got the urge to arrange leaves around the hole…

But then I felt like it needed a leaf in its center and found a lovely red oak to place there.  It’s nothing fancy, but it was fun making it.

We had a great time on our little hike. We went to Nerstrand State Park, about an hour away from the city, and hiked the short trail to Hidden Falls…

It’s not a very tall waterfall, but it was flowing real nicely and looked lovely with all the autumn beauty around it.  The tree stump where I made the mandala was right next to the falls up at the top just to the left of the photo.  I made it as we were leaving the falls area.

It was snowing off and on during our hike and got quite chilly at times. I think the temp was around 38 – 40.  We both wore 2 jackets, but only I was wise enough to had remembered gloves. 😉 My sister resembled a creature walking with her hiking poles which were stuffed up into the sleeves of her jacket to help keep her hands covered. I snapped this picture of her as she went to investigate whether or not there was a way through a certain area to pick up another trail…

“Ancient astronaut theorists say ‘no’” was her answer hahahaha!  😂 I love my sister!

Here are a few other photos I snapped along the way…

Some areas of the park were a bit past peak for fall color, while others were still going strong or just starting.  Either way, it was lovely  – despite the cool temps and the periodic snow.

The sun is shining brightly this morning and for that I’m grateful.  Hope you find things to be grateful for today too!  Happy Mandala Monday, wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Mandala Monday ~ Lake Superior Rocks

A mandala I made from some of the rocks I’ve collected along the North Shore of Lake Superior…

Creating this one messed with me a bit because not all of them are uniform in size, shape or color.  But I still like the way it turned out, and it was fun to experiment making a mandala out of rocks.  I love rocks!  This is laid out in the middle of my patio at the moment and will probably stay there until I feel like arranging them into something new.

Here are some of the rocks I collected on my last little trip up along the North Shore…

Quite a haul.  I know… I’m such a thief!  😉

They may not look like anything special in the photo, but each individual one spoke to me in some way as I explored along the shore in various areas.  The jagged-shaped ones on the upper right side were collected on the cliff I hiked that I wrote about in my Edge of the World post and hold special meaning for me.  But they’re all special.

I feel like most of the rocks I used in the mandala though were from ones I already had from previous trips before.  You may recall my sweet little granddaughter checking out my pile of rocks from an earlier Mandala Monday post…

I know it’s not really ‘right’ to take things from natural areas, but I’m always reverent toward nature.  And trust me, there’s literally gazillions of rocks up there – maybe more!  At any given moment if you look down while walking along the shore, this is what you see…

Unless you’re at Iona’s Beach where almost all of the rocks are a pink/salmon color.  It’s actually kind of a bizarre sight, but also super cool.  And nestled amidst them here and there you can find little dark gray/bluish ones that provide quite the contrast.  When my sis and I visited there this last time, someone had left this…

Looks like they love rocks too – and spreading the love!

Happy Mandala Monday!  Here’s to spreading some love in the coming week!

Mandala Monday ~ Noelle

A little flower mandala I created on top of my notebook while I was out on the patio writing and reflecting after my sweet Noelle was here visiting for a few days…

We spent a lot of time outside – she was a very good little helper in the garden…

She really enjoyed helping water my plants on the patio.

But can we talk about how adorable her curly little ponytail is?!  At 3, the child is finally getting hair!  My mom said Noelle reminded her of me as a little girl with a ponytail.  I loved hearing that. 😍  And of course, she also reminded both of us of my daughter.  ❤

Here she is examining and rearranging a few of my rocks…

She’s a real chip off the ol block, that one!  😉

And here she is jumping through the sprinkler…

Cuz hot summer day.  🌞

[By the way, the bathing suit she’s wearing was my daughter’s. 💕]

And here’s another one of her sleeping…

#Creepingonsleepingchildren haha!  I can’t help it, she’s too sweet when she’s sleeping!  Even when she’s kicking me in the ribs.  😉

I love that precious little being more than I could ever say, and it was so wonderful having her here with me for a few days.

I think this mandala I created while thinking of her looks just like her. 💜

Thanks for letting me share!

Happy Monday, wishing you a wonderful week ahead!

Mandala Monday ~ To Bring Cheer

A little flower mandala I created this past week from a few of the annuals I have growing in various pots on my patio…

I normally don’t like to pick the flowers from my garden, but I was needing a bit of extra cheer and creative expression, and sitting on the soft green earth playing with flowers in my garden did just the trick.  And those purple petunias… sooo wonderfully fragrant!

Hope this brings cheer to you too on this Monday!

Mandala Monday ~ Summer Solstice

I was wanting to create a nature mandala last Friday for the summer solstice, but I didn’t want to pick any of the flowers or plants growing in my garden, and there wasn’t much laying around on the ground to collect.  So I got out my paints and grabbed one of the extra ceramic tiles I had and painted one instead…

I usually paint the surface of the tile with a background color before creating a design, but I decided to leave it white this time.  That made for a more slippery surface though, so don’t look too closely because there’s a few smeary blops.  Leaving it white also made some areas of the design a bit less prominent, and I’m not sure yet if I like that or not.  But I do love the bright sunny feeling this has, and I really enjoyed painting it!

Thanks for letting me share!  Wishing you a bright and sunny Monday!

Mandala Monday ~ Memorial

It was at this time of year that my dad went into hospice care here at home, and whenever I came over to visit him I would always stop in the garden first to pick him some lily of the valley.

I remember him holding them up to his nose and closing his eyes and smiling as he breathed in their delightful scent.  I love seeing that memory in my mind’s eye.  It was only a small, simple gesture, on my part, but I think he liked it and that it helped to brighten up his last days.  ❤

So each spring when the lily of the valley are in bloom, I will go out into the garden to collect some to set in a vase next to his urn.

While I was out there gathering them yesterday, I decided to pick a few other things too and then play around with them a bit.  I created this little memorial mandala…

I could not bend those lily of the valley to my will, and I had to leave the stems on them because I planned to put them in a vase when I was done, so the circle got a bit choppy.  Also, it was only after I had already snapped these pictures and then had my batteries die that I realized I should have arranged them so that none of them would have been upside down.  I was just spiraling them around and not thinking.  So all the little bells on the right are upside down.  Oops! 🙃

Oh well, it’s still pretty, and I still very much enjoyed myself.  Sometimes it’s hard when you’re creating something and want it to be just right, but it doesn’t have to be perfect, and I think my Papa would have liked it too!  🌸

With the lily of the valley and the addition of lilacs, this was definitely the most fragrant nature mandala I’ve made thus far.

Mmm… delicious!  😍

My little gatherings… Such pretty colors and textures – they’re even lovely just lying in the box…

I adore every one of these blossoms – yes, even the dandelions!  😉

I’m enjoying experimenting with flowers to create my nature mandalas. 🌸 And making one in memory of my Papa made this one meaningful as well.  ❤

Wishing all of you a meaningful Monday and a beautiful week ahead…
