Seasons Merge

Cold winds swirl

autumn leaves twirl

two seasons merge into one

when snow joins in

adding a frosty dusting

of winter magic

But only for the weekend.  Thankfully!  😉

We had a bit of snow here in Minnesota.  Everyone is groaning “noooooo!”  Except me.  Don’t get me wrong… I was too at first, when I heard the forecast – if you’ve been with me very long, you know that autumn is my most bestest favoritest time of year, the last thing I want is for it to end prematurely.  Heck, it feels like it’s barely even gotten started and there’s so much more enjoying I want to have.  But, rather than dread or resist or groan about the cold and the snow – which we have zero control over, wouldn’t it serve us better to try to find the beauty in it instead?  It’s there, it just might require a little shift in perspective to see it…

Wishing you warmth and beauty today and a perspective that brings you joy!

On the Edge of the World

Feeling triumphant, I catch my breath

and gaze out at the vast expanse

blue, as far as the eye can see

A stunning view, as sky and water coalesce

I’m filled with gratitude and awe

standing on the edge of the world

I’ve explored along the north shore of Lake Superior so many times throughout my life, but somehow have never noticed this sign tucked off to the side of the road…

In fact, I’d never even heard of Palisade Head.  (I feel like a bad Minnesotan).  But on one of my little adventures this summer, my sister noticed it on the map while we were on our way to a different spot along the lake, so we decided to check it out. And omygosh it was absolutely breathtaking! 😍

There was a beautiful scenic overlook from the parking area, and that sight alone was amazing, but off to the side of the parking area, we found a place where you could climb up onto the rocks.  It was precarious looking and we both felt a slight bit of trepidation, but my sister had recently acquired a couple of sets of trekking poles (totally gonna get me some of those!), so we swallowed our fear and set off.

Some of you know that almost 3 years ago, I underwent a double knee replacement 5 months apart.  I’m so very grateful for my new knees, I never would have been able to do this (and many other things) without them!  But what you probably don’t know is that my sister also underwent a double knee replacement herself a couple of years prior to mine.  So this little hike on the edge of the world was sort of a big deal for both of us.  There were moments when we were both on the verge of tears, feeling deeply grateful for the ability and the gift of being able to explore in this way.

I’m not much of a risk taker or thrill-seeker, but I am adventurous – especially when it comes to exploring nature, so being able to get out and hike on this cliff, to see the views that only those with able bodies get to witness, was very meaningful to me.

Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t easy (I’m still not exactly ‘able-bodied’), and I was afraid, but with my sister’s encouragement (and her trekking poles), I did it!  And it really did feel like I was standing on the edge of the world.

I couldn’t really even see my phone screen in the bright sunlight, and these pictures do not do the spectacular view justice, but here are a few photos I snapped…

In this next one,  I was trying to take a picture of my sister, but I couldn’t even see her on my screen, so I was just guessing where she was in the shot haha!  Oops, crooked horizon…

What she was looking at, that you can’t see in the picture, was a guy who was climbing down the face of the cliff.  He was older guy and had Led Zeppelin blaring on some device, which was fun, but it did affect the vibe a bit, so I was glad when I couldn’t hear it anymore and could just listen to nature sounds.

We live on such a beautiful planet…

Wishing you a day filled with beauty, and with…

Sunrise Sunday

Sorry I’ve been a bit absent from blogland lately, I’ve been off having lots of adventures this summer.  I hope to have the chance to share a little about them with all of you sometime soon.  But for now, here’s a lovely sunrise over Lake Superior that I was fortunate to witness the other day…

My heart is overflowing with gratitude – for so many reasons…

Hope yours is too!  Wishing you all a beautiful, blessed day!

Music Monday ~ Garden Party

I know I just said this in my last post (apparently I like to repeat myself), but everything is a song.  Or, everything reminds me of a song.  And as I was preparing to share these following photos another old song came to mind.  But more on that later…

Another flower show I recently attended was called Garden Party: An Uncommon Floral Experience and was located inside a local shopping mall.  Because of the mall setting, the vibe was quite different than the flower show at the conservatory that I shared about the other day, but the displays and the flowers were absolutely gorgeous!

This display was ooo aah.  You can’t really tell how lovely it was from this picture, but there were two magnificent flower arrangements in tall vases on the table…

Another view

This one was my favorite setting, but again, the photo doesn’t truly capture…

The name of the mall is called the Galleria, which I imagine is the story behind the letter G in this next one.  And here’s me repeating myself yet again… but this photo can’t truly capture this display, it was HUGE and incredibly beautiful.  The G was created with various succulents and the combination of textures and colors was so cool.  I loved the orchids cascading down the one side and the roses on top…

Everything was teapots, cups and saucers themed…

But the flowers, of course, were actually the main theme for me…

I got excited when I found some lavender (my fave) mixed in.  Mmm…

I even picked up some of my seeds for my veggie garden while I was there…

I can’t wait to get planting! 🌱

I have more to share, but I think you’ve scrolled long enough. 😉 It was a lovely little garden party to attend, thanks for joining me!  Can you imagine this an as outdoor experience?  Dreamy! 😍

I can’t wait to spend time in my humble little gardening space!  But Spring sure is taking it’s sweet ol’ time getting here to Minnesota… we have 12- 18 inches of snow in the forecast for Wednesday through Friday this week.  Ugh.  Oh well, what can you do?  Can’t control nature. 🙃

And finally, here’s the song…

What can I say, I’m a child of the 70’s…

Happy Monday!  Wishing you a beautiful week! 😊

Spring Flower Show

Vibrant colors

red, orange and yellow

a refreshing feast for the eyes

for the winter-wearied heart

I recently attended the 2019 Spring Flower Show at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory that is located near my house.  I try to make it to Como as often as I can, it’s a wonderful place, and the conservatory is especially refreshing to visit during the long winter months here.  Those of you who have been with me for a while may recall numerous posts about this place over the years.  Sorry, not sorry, for the repetitiveness, but I LOVE it there!

This year’s Spring Flower Show was dominated by tulips and was all about the reds and yellows.  I don’t always fancy those two colors in combination, but it was working for me this time.  It was so beautiful and such delight to see those bright, vibrant colors when things are so drab and dreary outdoors here right now.  Although there’s still beauty that can be found even in those muted tones, I’m really ready for some color.  Not to mention, the smell in there was absolutely amazing!  Too bad there isn’t a scratch and sniff App…

Feast yours eyes…

😍

There was also a touch of white mingled in with the addition of gardenia…

They also have a Fern Room at Como…

As well as an Orchid Room…

And even a Koi pond…

And this is all only a fraction of the beauty there.  As I said…  it’s a wonderful place!  I’m so grateful to have it so nearby!

Thanks so much for letting me share it with you.  Wishing all of you a beautiful, brilliant day!
